STATEMENT FROM: Copyright Alliance Executive Director Patrick Ross RE: Senate Confirmation of the Nomination of Victoria Espinel as Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator
December 04, 2009
“The Copyright Alliance extends its thanks to the U.S. Senate for its speedy confirmation of Victoria Espinel to be the first Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator for the United States. Given Congress’ full plate, it is testament to the importance of this position that the Senate acted in short order so she can begin the important work that lies ahead.
“It is our sincere hope that lawmakers in Congress and the Administration give this office the necessary resources to get the job done. Creators depend on copyright – whether they are a single worker at a large company, or a single photographer working from home – to earn a living from their labors. Effective enforcement of these rights from the federal level is of utmost importance to ensuring the creative industries and their workforces continue to contribute to our economy as robustly as they do today.”
