introduction to fair use
This short movie clip gives an introduction to fair use and what it means for the creation of new works.
introduction to copyright
The 8-minute video takes you from the perspective of our founding fathers on rights of authors to the impact of technological innovation on copyright. It addresses how “disruptive technologies,” specifically computers and the internet, impact artist and creator rights. It makes the point that the internet does not require us to rethink copyright, but it is the greatest invention ever devised to encourage creativity. Therefore, we should not abandon one for the other, but we should encourage integration and use of both.
behind the scenes
Hear artists from various disciplines talk about what they create and why it is important to their lives and to the lives of others. They also discuss the importance of copyright in relation to their work and how piracy and infringement impact their livelihoods.
digital policy in the information age
This video is based on a talk that Patrick Ross gave at Ball State University before the Google book search decision was made in the courts. The clip discusses fair use in the academic environment.
